Departure Confirmed Ahead of Monza Finale
Ahead of the 6 Hours of Monza, the final round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship season, Peugeot has confirmed that the Italian event will mark Malthe Jakobsen's concluding race with the French team. The Danish driver will depart the squad based in Satory, located within the Yvelines department, at the end of the Monza race weekend.
Progression Through Peugeot Hypercar Programme
Jakobsen originally began his relationship with the Lion marque in late 2022 by taking part in the post-season Bahrain Rookie Test. He subsequently joined the Stellantis young driver programme before stepping into a reserve driver role for Peugeot in 2024. That progression culminated in promotion to a full-time Hypercar race seat across the 2025 and 2026 campaigns. Competing behind the wheel of the Peugeot 9X8, the Dane secured pole position at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in May.
Junior Prototype Career and Future Prospects
Before discovering the premier Hypercar category with Peugeot Sport, the young Danish talent developed his endurance foundation through competition in LMP3 and LMP2 machinery. While reflecting on his time in the top class as an unforgettable experience, Jakobsen could potentially represent McLaren as early as next year, with the British marque preparing to launch its own programme in the premier division of endurance racing.
Esnault Acknowledges Contribution and Outlines Monza Goal
Peugeot team principal Emmanuel Esnault explained that Monza represents both the season finale and Jakobsen's closing outing with the squad. Esnault noted that the entire team sincerely appreciated the driver's enthusiasm, commitment, and track performances. Offering heartfelt thanks and wishing him the best for his future endeavours, the team boss emphasized that everyone is focused on concluding their shared collaboration with a strong result.
Jakobsen Reflects on Four Years with Peugeot Sport
Reflecting on his four seasons with the outfit, Jakobsen described competing in his final race weekend at Monza with Peugeot Sport as holding special significance. He recalled that the team welcomed him "like a member of the family" from his first day at the Bahrain rookie test, playing an essential part in his personal and sporting evolution from a junior competitor into a factory driver in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Jakobsen singled out his premier-class debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as one of the finest memories of his career, expressing deep gratitude to Peugeot Sport and stating a desire to end their partnership on a high note.
