Start-to-Finish Victory at Sepang
Spanish rider Marc Márquez took a dominant victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit, claiming his seventh win of the season aboard the Ducati Desmosedici GP26. Márquez led the race from start to finish to take a decisive step toward securing his eighth MotoGP world championship and the tenth title of his sporting career. His triumph at Sepang marked his third MotoGP victory at the Malaysian venue, following previous premier-class wins at the circuit in 2014 and 2018.
Opening Lap Lead and Early Breakaway
Alex Márquez (Ducati Desmosedici GP26) had secured pole position for the race, but Marc Márquez claimed the lead at the opening corner of the circuit. Although both his brother Alex Márquez and Pedro Acosta (KTM RC16) attempted to remain in his slipstream during the initial running, Marc Márquez gradually pulled away tenth of a second by tenth of a second as he built his gap at the front on his way to victory.
Acosta Passes Alex Márquez as Bezzecchi Loses Ground
Behind Marc Márquez, Pedro Acosta bided his time before overtaking Alex Márquez, who experienced more difficulties than anticipated in maintaining his race pace. Fellow Spaniards Acosta and Alex Márquez both completed the race behind winner Marc Márquez. Further down the order, Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi endured his own troubles on the Aprilia RS-GP, watching first Ai Ogura (Aprilia RS-GP) pass him before compatriot Enea Bastianini (KTM RC16) overtook him on the final lap.
Championship Advantage Grows Over Martín and Bezzecchi
The Sepang victory further expanded Márquez's advantage at the top of the provisional MotoGP world championship standings. His closest title pursuer, Spanish rider Jorge Martín (Aprilia RS-GP), was absent from the Malaysian event because of an injury, having suffered a fractured radius in his right arm. With Martín sidelined, Márquez extended his lead in the provisional standings over him to 44 points, while also expanding his advantage to 67 points over Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia RS-GP), who concluded the Sepang race in sixth place.
