Sepang Withdrawal and Title Concession
Jorge Martin has confirmed his intention to mount a second comeback attempt at the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix, despite enduring a nightmarish weekend at Sepang that brought a near-definitive end to his MotoGP title defence. The Aprilia rider was forced to retire during the race after acute pain in his fractured forearm overwhelmed his endurance, leading him to withdraw from the Malaysian Grand Prix while acknowledging the commanding form of championship leader Marc Marquez.
Injury Fallout from Australian Grand Prix
The physical setback followed a heavy crash sustained during the preceding round in Australia, which left the reigning champion attempting to ride through significant suffering on Malaysian soil. Although Martin tried to grit his teeth aboard his machine across the Sepang circuit, the piercing pain in his injured arm proved too severe to resist, ultimately forcing him to pull out of the race.
Physical Barriers and Speedweek Comments
Speaking to Speedweek regarding his premature withdrawal, the Spaniard described the insurmountable barrier he encountered while trying to handle the motorcycle against such violent pain. Martin explained that he gave everything possible in order to ride, stressing that while the healing process had progressed very rapidly, his physical condition was not yet sufficient to remain competitive on track.
Lap Times and Mid-Race Decision
The Aprilia competitor revealed that he initially felt able to complete approximately one lap almost without pain, but the intense agony quickly returned in full force. Unable to maintain a regular lap-time rhythm, Martin and his squad evaluated his lap times and on-track performance before electing to halt his run and wait, taking what was described as a wise but painful sporting decision.
Championship Reality and Mindset
Confronted by the mathematical and psychological gap separating him from the summit of the general classification, Martin accepted defeat in the championship chase with complete honesty. The rider stated that he does not need to dwell excessively on the title, explaining that while mathematical possibilities might still linger, the crown is already lost in his mind. He nevertheless affirmed that he will fight until the end, setting new objectives to conclude the season and honour his commitments.
Commitment to Aprilia and Target of Qatar
Refusing to lower the white flag for the remainder of the calendar, Martin emphasized that he will continue pushing not solely for himself—noting that he has already achieved champion status—but out of dedication to his Aprilia crew and his people. The Spaniard confirmed he will attempt his return at the Losail circuit in Qatar, the venue where he suffered a severe crash in 2025 when returning from injury and feared he might not survive.
