Medical Clearance at Sepang

Jorge Martin has been declared fit to race in the Malaysian Grand Prix following a post-practice medical examination at Sepang. Aprilia announced the update after Friday morning's opening free practice session, stating that their rider had been declared fit to race for the event.

Opening Practice Running

The Aprilia rider returned to the track six days after breaking his wrist during a sprint race crash at Phillip Island. Martin completed laps during the opening free practice outing, with his best lap placing him 20th in the classification behind title rival Marc Marquez. Martin displayed no visible indication of physical struggle during his running before heading for medical evaluation.

Post-Practice Evaluation Protocol

The medical review followed the MotoGP medical team's Thursday decision permitting Martin to ride, which noted that he would face further evaluation after the first practice run. Aprilia team manager Paolo Bonora explained on Thursday that Martin would be assessed at the medical centre after the opening outing to confirm whether everything was fine and whether he could proceed with the weekend.

Injury Status and Zero-Risk Advice

Bonora explained that although Martin's fracture is non-displaced, the rider must avoid falling on the injury again. The team manager emphasised that the advice given to Martin was unambiguous: take no risks. Bonora stated that Martin should contest the race only if he feels confident of finishing safely, reiterating that he should take no chances otherwise.

Title Battle Context and Next Steps

Martin entered the Sepang weekend trailing Marquez in the championship standings following his sprint crash in Australia last Saturday. Marquez, Ducati's reigning champion and new points leader, topped the opening session and held the lead across almost the entire morning run after establishing the benchmark time early in his outing. Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi and KTM rider Pedro Acosta trailed Marquez closely on the classification, though none of the frontrunners used the soft rear tyre during the morning run. Martin now turns his focus toward the afternoon practice session, which decides direct advancement into the second qualifying phase (Q2).
