Day of the Dead Installation Returns to Mexico GP Paddock

The Formula 1 paddock has marked Mexico's traditional Day of the Dead with an installation featuring altars, flowers, and candles honoring figures connected to motorsport history as part of the Mexico City Grand Prix activities. Reviving an initiative that took place during the event's previous edition, the setup converts a central area of the venue into a commemorative walk through sporting memory. Traditional decorative elements, including candles, floral arrangements, and commemorative photographs, combine to transform the paddock into a meeting point between the heritage of grand prix racing and Mexican cultural tradition.

Formula 1 Champions and Figures Honoured on Altars

The installation's offerings display world champions, historical drivers, and prominent figures representing different eras of the championship. Mexican racing brothers Pedro and Ricardo Rodríguez, whose names designate the autodrome hosting the grand prix, feature on the altars alongside Enzo Ferrari, founder of the Italian squad, and Formula 1 world champion James Hunt. The tribute continues with Ayrton Senna, recognized as one of the most distinguished competitors in Formula 1 history, and Argentine racer Juan Manuel Fangio, who earned five world championship titles. Bruce McLaren, founder of the team carrying his family name, also shares space on the altars with Jim Clark and Gilles Villeneuve, both remembered for their distinguished careers in the sport's premier category.

Tributes to International and Multi-Discipline Champions

The commemorative altars additionally celebrate John Surtees, who achieved the rare distinction of securing world championships in both motorcycle competition and four-wheeled motorsport. Alongside Surtees, the display includes Moisés Solana, one of the Mexican drivers who represented the host nation on the international racing stage.

Paddock Altar Space Reserved for Lewis Hamilton's Dog Roscoe

Standing apart from the tributes honoring the sport's greatest driving legends, the Mexican Grand Prix installation also dedicated a distinctive space to Roscoe, the pet dog belonging to Lewis Hamilton. The English bulldog accompanied the British competitor over many years, becoming a regular and familiar presence throughout the Formula 1 environment. Roscoe's photograph is placed upon one of the altars, incorporating him directly among the figures recognized across the venue. By reserving a place for Hamilton's pet, the Day of the Dead display expands its commemorative tribute beyond those who achieved competitive milestones on the racetrack to include a companion who left a lasting impression on the personal life of one of the sport's leading drivers.
