Late Restart Decides Martinsville Victory
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series completed its Martinsville Speedway event as Front Row Motorsports driver Chandler Smith took victory in Friday’s Black’s Tire 200. Starting third on the grid behind the wheel of the No. 38 Ford, Smith mounted his challenge around the 0.526-mile Virginia short track in the closing stages. He executed a decisive pass on Layne Riggs on the final restart with 13 laps remaining and held off Ben Rhodes to secure his third victory of the 2026 season and the 10th Truck Series win of his career.
Riggs Controls Early Stages Before Late Charge
Rhodes finished second, while Riggs settled for third after controlling the majority of the event around the Virginia oval. Riggs had established command early by sweeping both stages and pacing the field for 156 laps, but he was unable to retain the top spot following the final restart. Behind the top three, Ty Majeski finished fourth, with Tristan McKee completing the top five finishers.
Championship Picture Changes After Late Contact and Eliminations
The Martinsville outcome also changed the Craftsman Truck Series championship picture with one race remaining in the season. Riggs reduced Kaden Honeycutt’s points lead to 20 after Honeycutt, who had been running inside the top five, was pushed back to 14th following late contact. Following Friday’s race, Chandler Smith, Ty Majeski, and Christian Eckes were eliminated from championship contention.
