Gen4 Era and Pre-Season Testing Schedule
The grid for the 2026/27 Formula E season is taking shape as teams and drivers prepare to tackle the championship's new Gen4 machinery. The upcoming campaign is scheduled to begin in December with an opening round in Jeddah, following official pre-season testing at Jarama from November 16 to 20, where competitors will gain their first comprehensive running with the upgraded technology.
Continuity at Andretti and Porsche
Several front-running outfits are relying on continuity across their driver pairings heading into the regulatory transition. Andretti Racing will retain 2022/23 champion Jake Dennis for a seventh consecutive season following a campaign in which he narrowly missed out on a second title. Dennis will again be partnered by former Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich, who claimed a podium finish in Monaco during his first season driving electric challengers. Reigning champions Porsche Formula E also keep an unchanged lineup, retaining 2025/26 title winner Pascal Wehrlein alongside Nico Mueller after Mueller supported Wehrlein during his run to a second championship in London.
Unchanged Driver Pairings for Citroën and Mahindra
Citroën Racing has also opted for stability behind the wheel by keeping Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne. Cassidy collected two podiums and a maiden victory for the outfit in Mexico City before adding a double podium in Tokyo, while Vergne rebounded during the Asian leg with a runner-up finish in Shanghai. The duo will work under new Team Principal Beth Paretta, who takes over following the death of Cyril Blais. At Mahindra Racing, Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries continue together following a campaign that yielded race victories and the highest number of pole positions in the concluding Gen3Evo season.
Evans Moves to Opel as Jaguar Retains Da Costa
Major driver market shifts have altered other prominent entries, led by Mitch Evans ending a ten-year tenure with Jaguar Racing to join newcomer Opel for its first campaign in the series. Evans will line up alongside 2023 Formula 2 champion Theo Pourchaire, who makes his full-time Formula E debut after testing Gen3 and Gen3Evo cars across sessions in Berlin, Jeddah, Miami, and Madrid. Jaguar TCS Racing, meanwhile, retains former champion Antonio Felix da Costa for a second season.
Overhauled Lineup at Envision and Changes at Nissan
Envision Racing will field an entirely new lineup following the retirements of Sébastien Buemi and Joel Eriksson. Maximilian Günther arrives after finishing 18th without a podium during his second year at DS Penske, while O'Sullivan steps up from two years as reserve and simulator driver to claim a full-time seat after setting the fastest time in past Miami test running ahead of Pourchaire. At Nissan Racing, Oliver Rowland enters the fourth season of his return to the squad, joined by Zane Maloney, who moves from Lola Yamaha ABT to target his first series podium after the departure of Norman Nato.
Hughes Returns with Cupra Kiro as Fortescue Zero Debuts
Cupra Kiro returns Jake Hughes to a race seat following a season as Mahindra's reserve driver, pairing the two-time podium finisher with Pepe Martí, who took podiums in Monaco and Sanya on his way to 66 points after debuting during the final Gen3Evo season. Elsewhere, newcomer Fortescue Zero replaces DS Penske on the grid in a partnership with Williams, fielding London E-Prix winner Taylor Barnard alongside two-time race winner Dan Ticktum. Lola Racing has introduced a new team name and appointed a new deputy team principal following the conclusion of its alliance with Yamaha and ABT, but has yet to announce its drivers.
