Double Anniversary Scheduled for September 2027

The Auerberg Klassik will celebrate a double milestone when it returns to Bernbeuren from 17 to 19 September 2027, commemorating 60 years since the original Auerberg races began and a decade since the historic meeting was revived. Although the gathering last took place two years ago in September 2024 and would normally have run in 2026 under its regular biennial schedule, organizers chose to defer the next edition to 2027. Hermann Köpf, board member of Auerberg Klassik, explained that staging the event in 2027 allows organizers to celebrate both anniversaries together while also accommodating other scheduled village events.

Historic and Modern Car Classes Join Competition

Automobile competition originally featured at the Auerberg races between 1967 and 1987, but the 2017 revival was staged strictly as a regularity trial for historic motorcycles manufactured up to 1979. While selected cars took part in past editions, they were restricted entirely to show runs. For 2027, the meeting will re-establish competitive links to the historic car era while preserving the regularity trial format, Köpf reported. Two new automobile classes will join the competition alongside the historic motorcycles: class one for historic racing vehicles that competed in the original Auerberg race up to 1987, and class two for racing cars and modern supercars without any year-of-construction limit.

Regulations Updated for Female Competitors

Köpf noted that organizers had received inquiries for automobiles continuously since the revival, but officials deliberately opted to start small initially to establish smooth cooperation with public authorities and local clubs. However, recognizing that many car enthusiasts were present among the thousands of spectators, organizers invited selected vehicles. Alongside the new car divisions, another regulatory change applies to female competitors. For the 2027 anniversary race, women can register for starting places with motorcycles of any model year. The limited presence of female competitors in prior events was because few women own a motorcycle manufactured up to 1979.

Grid Capacity and Registration Schedule

Starting places will be capped across all categories, with a total of 250 grid positions available. Following hundreds of inquiries in recent years from racing enthusiasts throughout neighboring European countries and overseas, organizers will conduct an advance selection to compile an engaging field. Köpf stated that the motorcycle contingent will be reduced slightly to accommodate the cars, though the organizing team has avoided committing to an exact division quota until all applications are received. Prospective competitors can apply from November—with the precise date yet to be determined—through 30 April on the event website, www.auerberg-klassik.de, describing their machines or cars.

Community Atmosphere and Supporting Program

Köpf anticipates high interest for the 2027 running, thanking Bernbeuren residents in advance and explaining that people embrace the event because the entire village actively lives it. The three-day schedule from 17 to 19 September will feature an extensive fringe program starting on Friday evening. Planned activities include live concerts, helicopter sightseeing flights, historic vehicle displays, and presentations by contemporary manufacturers featuring test drives. Attractions for children are also planned, while local community associations will operate food stands serving regional specialties. Additionally, Köpf revealed that legendary racing drivers are expected to attend the gathering in Bernbeuren.
