Post-Pandemic Ticket Sales and Attendance Milestones
The Sepang International Circuit recorded ticket sales exceeding 52,000 for the 2026 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix, marking its highest figure since the Covid-19 pandemic. Total spectator attendance across the event reached approximately 196,000 people. Sepang International Circuit chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif stated that 52,000 of the 56,000 tickets made available were sold. Speaking to reporters after Sunday's (Nov 1) MotoGP race at the circuit, Hanif said the total attendance came close to the organiser's target of 200,000 spectators. The chief executive explained that compared with previous years since Covid-19, this represented the highest ticket sales figure the venue had ever achieved. Hanif added that organizers came close to their target of 200,000 spectators and will aim to achieve that next year.
Inquiry into Alleged Black-Market Passes
Addressing the illegal sale of Premier Suite passes on the black market, Hanif confirmed that police had detained two suspects. He stated that the passes were believed to have been produced internally but sold on the black market without barcodes. The issue went viral on social media on Saturday (Oct 31) following claims that fake Premier Suite passes for the Malaysian MotoGP were being sold for RM250 at the circuit entrance, with several posts exposing the alleged scam. Hanif said Sepang International Circuit detected the operation through internal information before working alongside its security team and the police to take action against those involved.
Suspect Remand and Security Tightening
Hanif stated that two suspects have been detained so far and remain in remand while investigations are ongoing, noting that he could not comment further. Acknowledging that this should not have happened within the circuit's system, Hanif affirmed that management will tighten security measures moving forward.
