Spec Caliper Unveiling for MotoGP 2027
Brembo has unveiled its new GP4 brake caliper at the EICMA exhibition in Milan, presenting the hardware scheduled to equip the entire MotoGP grid beginning with the 2027 season. The component was developed to address the practical requirements of teams and riders ahead of upcoming technical regulations that make the adoption of spec calipers mandatory across the premier class. Exhibited publicly for the first time during the trade event held from November 3 to 8, 2026, the GP4 highlights continuous research, innovation, and technological knowledge transfer between competition and development, targeted at continually advancing on-track performance, braking feel, and rider safety.
Weight Reduction and Stiffness Optimization
In a sport where every gram counts, the redesigned caliper delivers a significant weight reduction of 75 grams per unit, achieving an overall saving of 150 grams on each motorcycle. Concurrently, structural rigidity increases by approximately five percent compared with the current solution. Brembo reached this result through an extensive and meticulous optimization process designed to strike the best possible balance between weight, stiffness, performance and reliability, rethinking every individual body element with dynamic track demands in mind.
Integrated Thermal Management
Thermal management formed another critical focus of the caliper body optimization. Rather than relying on dedicated cooling hardware or separate external attachments, the geometry, openings, and machining features have been engineered to contribute directly to the overall efficiency of the braking system. The integrated holes machined into the caliper body fulfill a dual purpose: they actively lower component mass while promoting airflow ventilation, serving as one of the defining visual and functional traits of the new GP4 generation.
Functional Architecture and Design Philosophy
The physical shape of the unit stems directly from the pursuit of performance, adhering to a guiding principle central to Brembo's design philosophy: form follows function. Every machined surface, aperture, and weight-saving pocket results from a deliberate material removal process where each feature performs an explicit functional role that defines its final outline. Completely overhauled relative to the previous GP4, the central structure acts as a backbone, accompanied by diagonal styling lines and lateral side openings that impart an immediately recognizable technical identity.
Platform Compatibility and Component Interchangeability
Alongside this major structural evolution, Brembo preserved the key compatibility characteristics of the existing platform to simplify the transition for MotoGP squads. The new GP4 retains the current hydraulic architecture, operates with identical brake pads and discs, and offers fully interchangeable mounting geometry. Furthermore, the base construction material and surface finish remain completely unchanged, allowing teams to swap the revised caliper directly onto their machines without reconfiguring adjacent running gear.
