Monza Season Finale and Valkyrie Debut
Aston Martin enters the final round of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship season this Sunday at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, fielding both the Valkyrie Hypercar and the Vantage GT3 with the goal of ending the year with a prestigious result. The 6 Hours of Monza closes the 14th world endurance championship at the Monza season finale, marking the first competitive appearance at the Monza circuit for the Valkyrie as it nears the end of its second racing season.
Hypercar Points Streak and Crew Form
Campaigned by the Aston Martin Thor team, the British hypercar arrives at Monza with a streak of nine consecutive points finishes in the WEC and aims to extend that run to ten. Three weeks ago at Barcelona, the #009 Valkyrie driven by Spain's Alex Riberas and Denmark's Marco Sorensen finished in ninth place, matching the crew's result from the previous race. In the sister #007 car, British drivers Tom Gamble and Harry Tincknell will seek to return to the points following several difficult rounds.
Championship Standings and Season Highlights
Earlier in the season, both crews featured prominently at Fuji in Japan, where both Valkyries started in the top six, the #007 car led the race, and both entries fought for the podium. Across 2026, the program's strongest finishes include two fourth-place results, achieved at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and during Lone Star Le Mans at the Austin circuit in the United States. That consistent scoring has placed Aston Martin sixth in the Hypercar manufacturers' standings on 58 points, holding a 34-point advantage over seventh place.
Technical Profile and Thor Team Perspective
Derived from the Valkyrie road car, the competition version combines a race-optimised carbon-fibre chassis with a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine capable in standard configuration of exceeding 1,000 hp and reaching 11,000 rpm. To comply with technical regulations across the WEC Hypercar and IMSA GTP classes, power is limited to 500 kW, equivalent to 671 hp. Aston Martin Thor Team team principal Ian James noted that the Valkyrie's second season has shown greater consistency, proving the squad can challenge near the front when conditions are favourable.
Heart of Racing and LMGT3 Record
At Monza, the Vantage, the most successful competition car in Aston Martin's history, will also compete in the LMGT3 class with the Heart of Racing team. The squad makes its debut at the Monza circuit after taking victory in Austin and earning three podium finishes from the 24 Hours of Le Mans onward. The Vantage has also claimed the most pole positions of any manufacturer in the category during 2026, securing three consecutive poles at Le Mans, São Paulo, and Austin.
Asian Le Mans and Macau Outings
The conclusion of the world endurance championship will not mark the end of racing commitments for the Vantage. From 13 to 15 November, four Aston Martin Racing partner teams will take part in the opening round of the 2026–27 Asian Le Mans Series at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, following the event's relocation from the Middle East due to regional conflict. The Vantage will also return to the historic Guia street circuit in Macau for the FIA GT World Cup, campaigned by Comtoyou Racing with drivers Marco Sorensen and Jamie Day.
