A.J. Foyt Enterprises has become the first IndyCar outfit to fully revamp its driver roster ahead of 2027, locking in an entirely fresh pairing for the upcoming championship. The squad finalized its two-car operation by confirming that Josh Pierson will take over the No. 4 Chevrolet, stepping in for Caio Collet after Collet completed just a single season with the team. Pierson's signing follows Foyt's earlier confirmation in September that Dennis Hauger will pilot the No. 14 Chevrolet, taking the seat previously occupied by Santino Ferrucci across four seasons. Hauger makes the switch after spending his rookie IndyCar campaign with Dale Coyne Racing, while Pierson arrives as the lone confirmed rookie across the entire 2027 grid thus far.

Entering the offseason between the 2026 and 2027 seasons, only 18 of the 25 seats on next year's grid had confirmed competitors. Three two-car outfits had yet to confirm any drivers, while three-car Chip Ganassi Racing still had one seat remaining to fill. Ganassi subsequently completed its stable by announcing Christian Lundgaard to pilot the No. 9 Honda in place of Scott Dixon. Dixon departs for Arrow McLaren, where Lundgaard had raced during each of the past two seasons.

Dixon's transition to Arrow McLaren forms part of several interconnected movements across the field. Arrow McLaren is placing Dixon behind the wheel of the No. 6 Chevrolet as a replacement for Nolan Siegel, while Felix Rosenqvist arrives from Meyer Shank Racing to serve as Lundgaard's direct successor in the No. 7 Chevrolet. That departure triggered a reshuffle at Meyer Shank Racing, where Marcus Armstrong shifts over to Rosenqvist's former No. 60 Honda, clearing the way for Mick Schumacher—who served as Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's third driver in 2026—to take over the No. 66 Honda. Meanwhile, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing sold a charter to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, enabling Dreyer & Reinbold to field Conor Daly in the No. 24 Honda for the entrant's first full-time campaign since 2012.

With Foyt's lineup now solidified as the only team to confirm a full overhaul thus far, Dale Coyne Racing and Juncos Hollinger Racing remain the only two organisations with vacancies left to address, each needing to fill both of their cockpits. A second complete overhaul appears unlikely at Juncos Hollinger; despite Sting Ray Robb not returning, expectations have long pointed to Rinus VeeKay being confirmed for a second year in the No. 76 Chevrolet. Dale Coyne Racing's outlook is less settled beyond the confirmed departure of Hauger to Foyt. While Coyne could potentially join Foyt as the only other team to complete a full lineup revamp for 2027, that outcome would not occur if Romain Grosjean returns.

The 2027 NTT IndyCar Series is scheduled to commence on Sunday, March 7 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, continuing the traditional staging on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida. Fox is set to provide live television coverage for all 17 races on the 2027 calendar.

Sources: IndyCar team becomes first to complete full lineup overhaul for 2027.
