Historic Breakthrough at Suzuka

Ducati registered a historic breakthrough in Japanese motorcycle racing by becoming the first non-domestic manufacturer to claim the premier title in the All Japan Road Race Championship, the national speed series frequently designated as the Japanese Superbike championship. Piloting a Panigale V4 R prepared by the SDG Ducati Team Kagayama, local rider Ryo Mizuno captured the JSB1000 class crown at the renowned Suzuka circuit. The milestone was confirmed on Saturday, October 24, after Mizuno secured victory during Race 1 of the concluding seasonal fixture, mathematically guaranteeing the overall championship with one race remaining on the timetable.

Dominant Season-Long Form

Mizuno’s title concluded an authoritative campaign orchestrated from the front of the field since the opening rounds. The Japanese competitor collected eight victories across the ten contested championship races, demonstrating the speed and reliability of the Borgo Panigale machine within a demanding environment. By mounting that dominant run, Ducati halted a longstanding monopoly held by Japanese motorcycle constructors in their flagship domestic speed division, adding an unprecedented achievement to its historical racing record.

Significance of the Japanese Triumph

Beyond the immediate sporting outcome, the accomplishment carries exceptional significance due to the cultural and commercial context in which it occurred. Breaking through in the premier category of Japan's domestic series allowed the Italian brand to establish a unique milestone in production-derived road racing. Japan has historically stood among the most foundational and influential markets in motorcycle competition, making a foreign manufacturer's triumph across its benchmark championship a truly singular occurrence.

Global Superbike Success

The milestone achieved at Suzuka formed part of a prolific 2026 season for Ducati across international Superbike competition. At the summit of production racing, Nicolo Bulega claimed the Superbike World Championship four rounds early, finishing a commanding world campaign with 32 race victories and four runner-up placements across 36 starts. In regional series, Hafizh Syahrin captured the Asia Superbike title for the second consecutive year, while Harrison Voight led an all-Ducati top-four sweep to secure the Australian championship. European circuits delivered matching silverware, as Kyle Ryde won the British Superbike Championship and Lukas Tulovic claimed the Superbike crown in the German EuroMoto series.

Worldwide Supersport Accolades

Ducati’s competitive honours in 2026 also extended into middleweight Supersport categories across multiple continents. In the United States, Josh Herrin earned his fourth consecutive victory at the prestigious Daytona 200, while Darryn Binder clinched the MotoAmerica Supersport title. European racing contributed further success as Luke Stapleford captured the British Supersport championship. Together with Mizuno’s historic breakthrough at Suzuka, these results rounded out a sweeping international campaign that saw Ducati machinery excel across distinct regional regulations, diverse track layouts, and separate levels of production-based racing.

For a different part of Ducati’s motorcycle-racing programme, see Acosta's account of his 2026 Ducati switch in MotoGP. The MotoGP and Japanese Superbike programmes are separate competitions.
