The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series heads to Martinsville Speedway on Friday night for the Black’s Tire 200 Presented by Down East Heating & Air Conditioning, marking the penultimate race of the 2026 season and the sixth round of the NASCAR Chase. Held over 200 laps and 105.2 miles at the historic 0.526-mile paperclip-shaped oval in Ridgeway, Virginia, the event leaves drivers with only one subsequent opportunity to gain ground in the championship standings. Martinsville's tight quarters, heavy braking zones, and traditional grandfather clock winner's trophy arrive just one week after a dramatic superspeedway event at Talladega that reshuffled the playoff picture.
Among the drivers entering Virginia with positive momentum is Sammy Smith, who claimed his first career Truck Series victory last weekend at Talladega. Piloting the No. 7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, Smith paced the field six times and survived an overtime finish to earn the win for Chevrolet. Heading to a venue where he previously made a Truck Series start, Smith also holds prior experience at the Virginia short track with multiple runner-up finishes in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Smith expressed excitement about returning to Martinsville with Spire Motorsports, aiming to carry over their winning momentum from Talladega into the weekend.
Several Chase contenders are aiming to solidify their playoff positions or rebound from recent setbacks. Christian Eckes, driving for McAnally-Hilgemann Racing, enters Friday placed fifth in the Chase standings and three points adrift of third. Eckes swept both Martinsville Truck Series races in 2024 while leading 320 laps, representing an organization that has won three of the past four series visits to the track. McAnally-Hilgemann teammate Daniel Hemric sits seventh in the standings after a difficult Talladega race, returning to a venue where he earned a victory last spring. Meanwhile, Tyler Ankrum occupies ninth in the Chase following a runner-up finish at Talladega, supported by a run of four consecutive top-10 finishes at Martinsville in the No. 18 Chevrolet.
The weekend also highlights several emerging drivers and manufacturer programs. Sixteen-year-old prospect Tristan McKee returns in Spire Motorsports’ No. 77 Chevrolet, having collected finishes of eighth, sixth, and fifth across three of his four Truck Series starts, and holds a track record and pole position from Martinsville Late Model competition. In the Rookie of the Year competition, reigning ARCA Menards Series champion and Virginia native Brenden “Butterbean” Queen leads the standings with five top-10 finishes this season, while Timothy “Mini” Tyrrell remains in contention. Additionally, dirt racer Carson Ferguson makes his third series start for Kaulig Racing as part of Ram’s Free Agent Driver Program, participating in Kaulig’s five-truck lineup following his victory in the Race for the Seat competition.
On-track activity for the Black’s Tire 200 takes place on Friday, October 30. Practice and qualifying are scheduled for FS2 starting at 12:30 p.m. ET, followed by the race broadcast on FS1 beginning at 6 p.m. ET. Radio coverage will be broadcast nationally across the NASCAR Racing Network and on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
