Jorge Martin will not travel back to Spain for medical care following his injury at Phillip Island, with Aprilia Racing confirming that the rider will instead undergo treatment over the coming days without making the journey home. The Noale factory issued the update on Sunday morning in Australia as the paddock waited for visibility to improve.
CT scan confirms non-displaced distal radius fracture
Martin underwent a CT scan to assess his condition following Saturday's injury. Aprilia confirmed to media that the only confirmed injury detected in the scan is a non-displaced fracture of the distal radius. The scan clarified earlier evaluations at the circuit medical centre, where initial X-rays had revealed a fracture of the radius and a suspected fracture of the ulna at the distal end.
Sprint crash and Australian Grand Prix withdrawal
The injury occurred on lap eight of Saturday's Tissot Sprint at Turn 8 while Martin was battling Ducati Lenovo Team rival Marc Marquez for the lead. Martin was declared unfit for Sunday's Australian Grand Prix following the incident, ruling him out of the main race.
Aprilia clarifies travel decision
Aprilia clarified to partner broadcaster Sky Italy that the decision was intended to avoid Martin flying home for treatment he could receive without making the long journey. The rider will undergo necessary care over the coming days as his condition is monitored.
Championship standings and points outlook
Crashing out of contention in the Sprint saw Martin cede the world championship lead to Marc Marquez, leaving him ten points behind in the title fight. A total of 173 points remain available from the Grand Prix race at Phillip Island to the final showdown of the year in Valencia.
