Absence from Qatar Grand Prix

Yamaha will not participate in the 2026 Qatar Grand Prix due to company travel restrictions, confirming the decision on Sunday, 1 November. Statements from both the manufacturer and the MotoGP Group were published on the official MotoGP website during the Malaysian Grand Prix, confirming that the marque will not line up in Qatar.

Corporate Travel Directives and Security Assessment

According to reporting by Motociclismo, the withdrawal stems directly from travel restrictions enforced across the entire company. Following its latest assessment regarding the situation in the Middle East, Yamaha determined there were insufficient grounds to alter those internal directives. The brand further explained that its decision reflects an evaluation of available information, operating independent of measures instituted by the MotoGP Group or the race organiser.

Planned Return at Portuguese Grand Prix

Despite missing the event in Qatar, Yamaha reaffirmed its commitment toward MotoGP and stated that it expects to resume competition at the Portuguese Grand Prix. The outfit had previously emerged as hesitant over Qatar GP participation amid paddock safety concerns, making this non-attendance a confirmed corporate decision rather than ongoing speculation.

Championship Response and Assurances

Championship leadership voiced disappointment regarding the manufacturer's absence. “MotoGP is disappointed with Yamaha's decision not to participate in the Qatar Grand Prix,” the MotoGP Group stated. While recognising the corporate policy constraints cited, the organization maintained that skipping the round failed to reflect the assurances provided to series stakeholders.

Security Consultations and Unaltered Plans

According to the MotoGP Group, consultations were carried out involving the State of Qatar, Lusail International Circuit authorities, and independent security consultants. Those inquiries, coupled with the championship's continuous risk evaluation processes, supplied no information that justified altering plans for the grand prix.

Remaining Competitors Confirm Attendance

The MotoGP Group communicated its position alongside the latest information to all manufacturers and teams on Sunday. The remaining participants confirmed attendance in Qatar, with gratitude expressed for that commitment.

Contractual Obligations and Sporting Oversight

The decision also involves contractual and sporting implications. Contractual ramifications exist for Yamaha's agreements with MotoGP and the teams' association, IRTA. Meanwhile, managing any sporting consequences arising from the absence falls to the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) under championship regulations.
